Glossary term

data granularity

The model, batch or item level at which product passport information is assigned.

What does data granularity mean?

Granularity tells a team whether a field belongs to a product model, a batch or an individual item. ESPR product-group rules specify the applicable level; the Battery Regulation establishes an individual-battery passport with both model-level and battery-specific information. Mixing the levels can attach an accurate fact to the wrong product.

Minespider working definition

Data granularity identifies whether a passport data item applies to a model, batch or individual item under the applicable product rule.

Common boundary mistakes

“Data granularity” here is Minespider's explanatory label, not a quoted legal definition.

Source context

ESPR Article 9(2)(d) places model/batch/item granularity in product-group delegated acts. Battery Regulation Article 77 establishes an individual battery passport with model and item information.

Definition status

Source-grounded explanatory term, not a formal definition in the cited provisions. Source context is paraphrased, not quoted legal text.

Practical application

Identify whether each claim belongs at model, batch or item level and how changes propagate to linked items.

Minespider commentary

Assign model, batch and item levels explicitly so shared evidence does not replace battery-specific records where those are required.

Common confusions

  • An item-level battery passport still contains model-level data. Granularity sets the level of the record, not which data it holds.
