What does interoperability mean?
A usable passport must remain accessible and interpretable when information moves across suppliers, service providers and lifecycle systems. ESPR and the Battery Regulation impose interoperability requirements; the published European standards provide relevant technical context. Catalogue listings alone do not establish that every standard is mandatory for every product.
Minespider working definition
Interoperability is the ability of passport systems and actors to exchange and use the required data under the applicable technical and access rules.
Common boundary mistakes
Distinguish legal duty from implementation standard.
Source context
ESPR Articles 10–11 and Battery Regulation Articles 77–78 contain interoperability requirements. The public CEN catalogue lists technical standards but does not establish their universal applicability.
Definition status
Source-grounded explanatory term, not a formal definition in the cited provisions. Source context is paraphrased, not quoted legal text.
Practical application
Document interfaces, data formats, access rules and portability tests between passport systems.
Minespider commentary
Test identifier resolution, schema compatibility and access-controlled exchange as distinct integration checks.
Common confusions
- Distinguish legal duty from implementation standard.
