Glossary term

passport back-up copy

A continuity copy of an applicable digital product passport made available through a service provider.

What does passport back-up copy mean?

For an ESPR-governed DPP, Article 10(4) requires the responsible economic operator to make a back-up copy available through a DPP service provider. This supports continuity if the original service fails. Battery passport availability is governed separately; the ESPR provider requirement must not be pasted onto every battery passport.

Minespider working definition

A passport back-up copy is the separately available copy required for an applicable ESPR DPP through a service provider, with continuity obligations kept distinct.

Common boundary mistakes

No universal claim that the registry hosts the copy or its URL.

Source context

ESPR Article 10(4) requires the back-up copy for applicable ESPR DPPs through a DPP service provider, while Article 11(e) concerns continued availability. Battery Regulation Article 78(e) has a distinct availability rule.

Practical application

Document the ESPR passport copy, service-provider relationship, availability period and recovery test for the applicable product group.

Minespider commentary

Separate the applicable ESPR back-up arrangement from primary hosting and from battery-specific availability requirements.
