Hazardous waste is source-dependent. The India Battery Waste Management Rules point to hazardous waste as defined under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016, while the EU Waste Framework Directive defines hazardous waste as waste displaying one or more hazardous properties listed in Annex III.
