What does responsible entity mean?

Responsible entity matters because the same regulated-battery obligation may be routed differently depending on scheme status. The term decides whether a PSO or brand owners are the actors responsible for the relevant NSW stewardship duties.

Source context

This page is NSW-specific and should be read with the NSW definitions for regulated battery, brand owner, PSO, and regulated battery product stewardship scheme. It does not create a general responsible-entity rule for other jurisdictions.

Practical application

Use responsible entity when assigning account ownership, reports, records, or compliance tasks under an NSW regulated-battery scheme. The first implementation question is whether a stewardship administration agreement exists for the regulated-battery type.

Minespider commentary

For Minespider, responsible entity is the actor-routing field in the NSW cluster. It helps systems assign obligations to the PSO or to brand owners while keeping the underlying battery type, agreement status, and evidence responsibilities auditable.

Common confusions

  • Treating responsible entity as a generic responsible-company label.
  • Forgetting that the role switches depending on the stewardship administration agreement.
  • Collapsing PSO responsibility and brand-owner responsibility into one actor record.
